Chakdaha, Sept. 22:  Police have arrested the 29 year old wife of the slain businessman in Nadia’s Chakdaha on Monday allegedly for murdering him by hatching a conspiracy with her paramour.

Sushmita Dutta, wife of slain hosiery garment manufacturer Antu Dutta, who was mysteriously killed at his home during the wee hours of Friday morning, was arrested from her paternal home in Ranaghat.

The accused homemaker is the mother of a three year old daughter, in front of whom the assailants had killed the businessman.

Sushmita was produced before additional chief judicial magistrate’s court in Kalyani and ordered police custody for 5 days.

Superintendant of police, Nadia, B.L.Meena said: “We have got substantial evidence against the woman about her involvement behind murder of her husband. She has been charged under section 302 (murder) and 120 (b) (conspiracy) of the Indian penal code”.

Investigating officials claimed that Sushimita’s involvement came to light following the call records of her mobile phone were examined.

“From the call record we traced numerous incoming and outgoing calls to a number till the early hours of last Friday morning when the businessman was killed. We identified the owner of the number as Liton Biswas, a painter and resident of Ranaghat Rupasree Pally, with whom she had an extra marital relationship. On Saturday night we nabbed Liton from his home when he confessed to have killed Antu Dutta with the help of Sushmita. However, Liton had apparently committed suicide by consuming poison while being taken for a medical check up”, a police officer said.

On Thursday night as per plan Liton knocked Antu Dutta’s house at about 2.30 am. His wife Sushmita opened the door, when Antu was asleep. Liton hacked  Antu with a hasua. Then he tied Sushmita with a rope and ransacked the home before leaving to project the incident as a dacoity.

Police have recovered the hasua and produced it before the court.
