But, some local influential persons have eye on the land who hired criminals from Murshidabad to grab the land. On Sunday the armed miscreants led by Habib Sheikh, Zohar Sheikh, Babu Sheikh, Mohit Sheikh came to grab the land. When I tried to resist, they beaten up me and spoiled my paddy. I went to the police station, but the duty officer refused to take any complaint. On Monday, the miscreants beaten up some other villagers, when they spoke against grabbing. This time police, however, registered a complaint. On Tuesday, the miscreants started threatening us. In the afternoon, the villagers submitted a joint deputation at the police station naming four miscreants who have been intimidating the villagers. But, police did not respond. On Wednesday morning, the miscreants taken position at the land with arms, beaten up some villagers and kidnapped Mahesh Ghosh. We made repeated calls to the police to take action. The police apathy angered the villagers, who later gathered at the police station and gheraoed it.

The villagers also organized a protest meeting near the police station where local BJP, Congress and CPI (M) leaders delivered speech.

Police sources claimed that, the political leaders through their speeches incited the villagers.
