The municipality in last month had taken up the job of construction of the garage for its vehicles.

The work wad awarded to civil contractor Khalil Biswas.

Chairman Ashim kumar Saha on Tuesday visited the work site and advised Khalil Biswas to strengthen the support under the shuttering and centering as it appeared to be week.

"I am not an engineer, but I became anxious seeing the structure as it appeared to me too week to take the load once the RCC work will be done. I therefore advised the contractor Khalil Biswas to suspend today's casting job and to strengthen the structure. But, after the accident it became clear that he ignored my advice. He is totally responsible for the accident and legal action will be taken against him", Saha said.

Contractor Khalil Biswas, a resident of Dharmada, however, could not be available for his comment. He also did not attend the work site after the accident. Calls to his phones remain unanswered.

According to eye witness, the centering with steel structure for the roof of the six-room garage building over which cement reinforced cement concrete works were being carried out had collapsed while around 120 laborers were working over it and about ten others were providing necessary support from under the structure.

We became panicked and told the site engineer to stop work. But, he ignored our plea. A little later the entire structure collapsed."
