Police said Sabyasachi was shot at from close range by the miscreants who were hiding behind a road side bush in darkness of night.

Chakdaha police have started a murder case on the basis of a complaint lodged by victim’s ….. (mother Arati Dutta). However, no was arrested in connection with the incident till Wednesday afternoon.

The investigating officials have meanwhile, have detained some family members including the victim’s maternal uncle Dinesh Mandal, a small farmer and his wife Sukla for interrogation.

Local Sources said, victim Sabyasachi recently earned wrath of Dinesh for interfering into a dispute with his brother Ramesh over land and property division. The maternal uncles’ house is located barely 200-meter away from his home. Sources claimed that Sabyasachi had took Ramesh’s side and had protested when Dinesh allegedly trying to deprive him of his legitimate  share.

“Ramesh and his son Dolon have threatened Sabyasachi of dire consequence if he continued to interfere in the dispute”, a local said.

Victim’s mother, however, refused to speak on the matter. She said: “I was waiting for my son last night. At about 1 am he returned, but before entering home he went outside on the road to attend nature’s call. At the same spot, I noticed two persons hidden behind a bush. I told my son to check who are they, but before he could finish nature’s call, the miscreants fired at him and escape pushing me heavily from the front”.

Nadia Superintendant of police Bharat Lal Meena said: “We have already started probe and questioned some family members. The initial findings suggest that internal dispute over property most probably has played a role behind the murder. We will examine this aspect to ascertain the motive”.

Trinamul Congress Chatra Parishad district president Ayan Dutta said: “We came to know that Sabyasachi got involved into an internal family dispute over property, which we suspect the reason behind the murder. We have requested to police to find out culprits immediately”.
