Thanarpara (Nadia), March 8: Happy over stripping of party posts of Mukul Roy, a section of Trinamul workers in Nadia’s Natidanga, organized a picnic on Sunday to celebrate party's decision. These party workers categorically think that Roy is the ‘route’ of all corruptions and stripping him of party posts is the beginning of a ‘clean up’ drive initiated by Mamata Banerjee against corruption which has engulfed the party organizations at all levels across the state.

Party workers are also hopeful that Mamata Banerjee should also be ready to face any type of 'probe' leaving no scope of doubt about her integrity as slurs are being hurled at her on Sardha scam.

They are also hopeful that she would also undertake similar ‘clean up’ drive in Nadia district too, where a large section of the party functionaries are Mukul aides who are involved in corruptions.

The picnic, however, created controversy within the district leadership, as party’s Nadia district president Gourisankar Dautta said: “The leadership does not approve such celebration. Those who have organized the programme may be party supporters, but have no official affiliation”.

A general secretary on anonymity, however, said: “The workers have done nothing wrong and have told a bitter truth of corruption”

Nevertheless, around 600 party supporters, who are mostly disgruntled about the functioning of the present leadership in the Nadia, organized the picnic with delicacies of “mixed vegetable khichuri” to celebrate what they think as the party’s first "solid step" against corruption.

The picnic was organized at the ‘Ganga Smriti Prathamik Vidyalaya’ ground in Thanarpara, under the banner of ‘Trinamul Congress Natidanga-II Anchal committee-2013-14 (Puraton O Abohelito)”. Around 600 party workers led by former president of Karimpur-II block Trinamul committee Arghya Chaudhuri and former president of Natidanga-II Trinamul committee Aktarulhosen Mullik attended the picnic. A ‘lathi khela’ (stick fighting) was also organized on the occasion.

Flex banner and hoardings were hanged in the ground which states: “Mukhoshdhari Mukul Roy ke doliyo sob pad theke aposarone amader puraton o abohelito Trinamul kormider sanando pritivoj – Mamata Banerjee-k suvechcha o Avinondon”

The workers enjoyed the ‘khichuri’ as their lunch sans any curry.

Local Trinamul leader Arghya Chaudhuri said: “The party workers in this area mostly belong to poor farming community. They contributed rice, daal and vegetables spontaneously. Hearing about today’s celebration, Trinamul workers from other parts of Karimpur-II block have also expressed their willingness to organize similar picnic in next weeks. The party workers, who were gradually disassociating themselves from organizational activities, have become euphoric ever since Mukul Roy was stripped off the party posts. He played a key role in Sardha scam that has damaged the party image largely. So we think action against him is an indication about more similar actions against other party leaders involved in corruption in the coming days particularly at district like Nadia to which Mukul Roy has a close proximity”.

When told that the district Trinamul leadership does not approve such ‘celebration’, Chaudhuri said: “We love Mamata Banerjee and Trinamul. We need no official approval to show our love for the party. Those who indulge corruption would only protest us”

“A large section of youth in Thanarapara area joined the Trinamul once impressed with honest profile of the party and of Mamata Banerjee. These youths are against any type corruption, who also think that as the slur being hurled against Mamata Banerjee on Sardha scam, she should also face the probe and come up with clean image”, said former president of Natidanga-II Trinamul committee Aktarulhosen Mullik.

According party insiders, in 2013, since Gourisankar Dutta took over charge as the president of Nadia Trinamul replacing Pundarikakshya Saha (Nanda) after he suffered cerebral attack, a major change was occurred in organization. “Gaurisankar Dutta, who is a close aide of Mukul Roy, appointed many corrupted persons in the organization in Karimpur areas, which include even cattle smugglers, removing many honest and popular leaders like Arghya Chaudhuri obeying instruction of Roy. Arghya raised voice against some Mukul aides for their alleged involvement into corruption. The removal of Arghya angered the locals largely as he was popular for his honest and clean image. The party also faced a set back later in the panchayat election. Removing a leader like Arghya was a wrong decision. So removal of Mukul has made the workers euphoric for definite reason”, a district committee leader in Krishnanagar said.
