Tornado Damages Houses In Haringhata

A heavy rain with a tornado that swept over haringhata and parts of chakdaha block on Wednesday morning damaged around one hundred houses and other Establishments. The cyclonic rampage continued for over an hour and made maximum impact in villages like nagarukhra, dighalgram, dakshinchar, uttarchar, hapania, sonapur, gachaberia village. Houses were collapsed, trees and electric poles were uprooted in the area making huge loss of properties. DM nadia Vijay Bharati said: "the local sdo, bdo have been pressed into action. Relief materials have been sent and victims will be taken to safe shelter if required. The amount of damage in fiscal terms, however, yet to be calculated". Meanwhile incessant rain continued across the district on Wednesday. A flood like situation has been created in matiary panchayat area of kaliganj block. Bharti said: '" flood shelters have been opened and 150 families were shifted there" . in Nabadweep SANTIPUR some low lying areas have been inundated creating a flood like situation there too. Meanwhile, the water level in bhagirathi in Nabadweep has crossed the extreme danger level (EDL) 8.44 MGTS. Irrigation department source said, the water level at present reached 9.10 MGTS making the locals afraid of inundation of Nabadweep town.
