Bagula, Dec.31: CPI (M) Bagula local committee secretary Mrinal Biswas (37) and another party member Sisir Sarkar (54) were were allegedly beaten up brutally by a group of TMC activists in Bagula on Wednesday morning.

A complaint was lodged at the Hanshkhali police station later against local panchayat pradhan and Trinamul Congress leader Pijush Kundu and five others, who allegedly led the attack on the two leaders.

The incident occurred at about 10.30 in the morning.

Party sources said, a group of Trinamul activists led by Kundu barged into the CPI (M) party office located at the Bagula market area, ransacked the office and beaten up Mrinal Biswas and Sisir Sarkar when they tried resist them.

Biswas said: "There were in a rampaging mood and we tried to resist them. But, they were hurling abusives, when we protested the Trinamul activists started beating us brutally. They kicked us, punched us on the face, chest until some locals rushed in to protest."

District Trinamul congress leadership, however, refuted the allegation. "None of our party members were involved in such attack. CPI (M) is a dying force in the state and in the district as well, so question of attacking its workers or leaders does not arise at all", a senior district leader said.

An investigation officer of Hanshkhali police said, "We have received a complaint which is being looked into"
