Santipur, Jan. 6: Police have tightened security of Trinamul Congress MLA from Nadia’s Santipur Ajoy De following an anonymous person on Tuesday morning had called the officer in charge of Santipur police station Partha Pratim Roy threatening to kill De.

The caller with same number had also called local Trinamul Congress leader and pradhan of Belgharia-II panchayat Tarun Biswas and had also threatened him that De would be attacked soon.

The two calls have unleashed a tension in the district police administration, which has started a suo moto inquiry into the matter.

SP Nadia Arnab Ghosh said: “We are examining the details of the caller from the service provider. However, the details cannot be disclosed for sake of investigation”.

However, sources said the two threat calls were made from 8653592046.

The sleuths of Santipur police have already got the details against whom the SIM with this number was issued. However, the owner of the SIM has been found dead.

“We have identified the person against whom the SIM was issued. He is a resident of Santipur, but found to be dead. It appears that either the original owner lost the SIM or it might be issued illegally forging his documents without his knowledge”

“We are trying to find out the local retailer who issued the SIM so that actual user of the device could be find out”, a police officer said.

De, five times MLA from Santipur, who switched over to Trinamul Congress in last year from Congress, has, however, not lodged any complaint personally.

De said: “I am not afraid of such threat. Local police chief has informed me that he would suo moto start a case into the matter. So I have not felt any need to lodge a separate complaint. It is quite clear to me that well organize political forces who have become afraid of development in Santipur and across the state have become desperate and trying to unleash a reign of terror. This threat call is an addition to their endeavor”.

De on Tuesday appraised the top leadership about the calls and also party workers. He also later in the day visited a ground in Santipur town to organize a floriculture show in the town, where plain clothed policemen followed him apart from his bodyguards.

The Santipur town Trinamul Congress later in the afternoon organized a rally condemning the threat call s.

However, close aides of De are not taking the threat calls lightly.

The reason largely because, De’s elder brother noted Congress leader and party MLA from Santipur Asamanja De was shot dead by armed miscreants in Santipur town in late 80s.

Belgharia panchayat pradhan Tarun Biswas said: “I felt afraid about the call. It was around 9.17 when I received the call. The caller said - aaj dupur 12-tar madhdye Ajoy de khun hobey, parley bachas. After this the called snapped the call. I called him back, but found the phone switched off. I then rushed to De’s house and told him about the call. He advised me to inform the police. He also personally talked the police, when the OC also told him that he also received similar call”.

OC Partha Pratim Roy said: “I received the call at around 9 in the morning. The caller told me that Ajoy De would be attacked today and he challenged me to save him. I also later found the phone switched off. I then call the MLA and advised him to be careful and then told my senior officer. Later I tightened his security and started a case”.
