Retired Major On Cycle Journey For Martyrs

70 year old Retired Major general of Indian army Somenath Jha would be cycling 12000 km covering 29 states in memory of the martyrs. A resident of Malda Nazirpur, who retired as the major general of the Jammu Kashir light infantry battalion started his journey on 19 October from Ambala cantonment and has so far covered around 1200 km of 19 states. The elderly army man on Thursday reached Krishnanagar as a part of his journey. Speaking to the reporters, he said: "I worked for 37 years in the Indian army. During my career I have seen many soldires laid their lives for the Nation. I decided to take up this toiling journey in such late age to pay tribute to those great soldiers. I feel honored to be able to take up this task for them. I hope people in the country in the same way respect the martyrs and the soldiers". Picture by Pranab Debnath
