Ranaghat, March 25: A CID team on Tuesday questioned an expelled student of class nine of Convent of Jesus and Mary high school in Ranaghat in connection with Nun brutalization case, whose father had allegedly threatened the school principal of sexual assault, eight days before the attack.

The sleuths have also questioned the student’s mother Tripti Mondal, a home maker and a resident of Donbosco Para.

The student was expelled in February this year after he allegedly uploaded an ‘obscene’ content to a social networking site maligning one of his class mate girls. He had been accused of the same offence last year and was allowed to continue in the school after he gave an undertaking that it would not be repeated.

On Tuesday a CID team visited the student’s home for the third time located near the school at about 2.45 Pm and took the student and his mother Tripti Mondal to a camp office in Ranaghat where they were detained for interrogation.

The CID team, however, could not question the student’s father who left for his workplace in Saudi on March 11.

The CID has so far questioned 25 persons, but failed to get any breakthrough into the case.

According to CID sources, the sleuths have been trying to relate an incident occurred on March 6 when the student’s father Sadhan Mondal, who works as cook in a hotel in Saudi Arab, had allegedly threatened principal Sister Shanti of sexual assault after she refused to oblige his demand to hand over his son’s class Nine registration certificate without any formal application.

The fresh CID quiz came in the wake of the pending complaint against the student’s father at the Gangnapur police station.

"The father's threat to the principal was fallout of an action that was initiated against his son by the school authorities," said a CID source.

A CID officer said: “We have came to know that after the boy was expelled and issued transfer certificate, his father Sadhan Mondal turned up at the school's office and sought the registration certificate of his son”.

“On March 5, the father returned to the school and demanded his son's ICSE registration certificate, which the principal could not give because of the Dol Jatra holiday. She advised him to come on a working day with a formal written application. But, he was insisting that the certificate be given instantly, which the principal refused to oblige”.

“On the next day, he returned with a group. They were seen shouting and hurling abuses targeting the principal. They kicked on the main gate when they were denied entry. We have come to know from the eye witness that the student’s father had categorically threatened Principal Shanti of sexual assault," said a CID officer.

During the incident, Principal Shanti called SDO Ranaghat Rajarshi Mitra who immediately sent police.

The Principal later lodged specific complaint against Sadhan Mondal at the Gangnapur police station.

A school official said: “The teachers and nuns were feeling insecure after the incident and the Principal personally met the SDO requesting his intervention into the matter”.

“What concerned her most was the presence of the student’s mother during the threat, who also took violent role supporting his son”, said a source.

Ranaghat's sub-divisional officer Rajarshi Mitra confirmed that he had received a complaint from the school on March 6 and a police team was sent to the institution to sort out the problem.

"The principal of the school called me up and sought police protection. After receiving the complaint over the phone, I took the initiative of sending policemen there. The policemen rushed there and dispersed the troublemakers," Mitra said.
