Prof Manabi Banerjee To Become Country's First Transgender Principal In Nadia College

Krishnanagar, May 26: The Krishnanagar Government Women’s College is all set to be the first college in the country to have the first transgender college principal on June 9 when Professor Manabi Bandopadhaya will join the college and take over its charge. Professor Manabi, a resident of Naihati who undergone a sex change surgery during 2003 visited Krishnanagar Government women’s' college on Tuesday, apparently for a pre-joining interaction with the staff and the student. She is at present working as an associate professor of Bengali department of a Jhargram based Vivekananda Satobarshiki Mahavidyalaya,

On Tuesday, she met the students, officials and security guards and talk with them for few hours. "I am yet to join the college as I am yet to get the release order from the governing body of my present college in Jhargram. It was quite tough for me to go there in Jhargram from Naihatir so I wanted to come closure to my home. I enjoyed the journey today by train as daily passenger. I talked over phone with the officials of the Krishnanagar based college for some days since my posting order was issued. I came to talk in person with them, It was very pleasant experience. I hope to join the college soon". Offcials in the college said, Manabi inquired about everything in the college and urged the present authorities to ensure proper security for the girls. "She said: "There should be no slackness in ensuring security particularly during the college ours to ensure safety of the girls"
