Man Killed By Brothers Over Property Dispute In Shimurali

Chakdaha, Feb. 3: A 45 year old person was allegedly killed by two of his brothers at their ancestral home over a property related dispute in Nadia’s Shimurali late on Monday night. Arun Das, the victim was a clerk by profession attached the chemistry department of Kalyani University.

Das was allegedly killed by his elder brother Barun and younger brother Tarun when he came to meet his mother with some food for her.

Das was a resident of University in Kalyani staff quarter. He left home two years ago due to contention over property among the siblings.

His body was fished out by the locals from a pond located inside the ancestral house late in the night after he went missing since meeting her mother. Police recovered the body and sent for post mortem. The inquest revealed injury mark on the back of the head of the victim. An investigating officer said, “It appears that the victim was hit by a hard object on the head”.

The locals turned violent and ransacked the ancestral house where prime accused Tarun live with her wife Pampa. The mob also set the house on fire. The rampage continued till mid of the night until a large police team led by Inspector in charge of Chakdaha police Pintu Saha rushed to the spot and controlled the situation.

Prime accused Tarun Das, an unemployed youth went absconding along with his wife Pampa. Police, however, arrested elder brother Barun.

Superintendant of police of Nadia Arnab Ghosh said: “We have started a murder case on the basis of a complaint lodged by victim’s wife Mohua Das. We have also arrested one of the brothers and also questioned their mother about the incident. It appeared that the brothers have internal rivalries over the ancestral property”.

According to local sources, the contention developed among the siblings two years ago following the death of their father. The family had a home on a sprawling 9 bigha of land that accommodates two big ponds and an orchard of mango and jackfruit.

“Victim Arun wanted that the property should be divided into five parts that include the three brother, their mother and a married sister. But, Barun and Tarun always insisted that they would enjoy due to their poor financial condition. They were zealous of Arun as he got clerical job in Kalyani University. In last year, the two brother threatened Arun of dire consequences if he continue to claim his share over the property. Arun was compelled to leave home. He only made weekly visit to Shimurali home to see mother. On Monday night he came on such a visit after returning from University and paid for life”.
