Kalyani Book Fair 2015 Begins

The much awaited event - Kalyani Boi Mela (Kalyani Book Fair) that attracts huge crowd in the town, has began at the central park civic centre ground on Saturday. Eminent actor Sabitri Chattopadhaya and author Abul Bashar inaugurated the gala book fair in presence of the other dignitaries. The 10-day long book fair will be concluded on December 14. 

The main stage for the book fair has been named as "Kabi Ishwar Gupta-Madanmohan Tarkalankar-Jatindramohan Bagchi Manch" - as a mark of respect to these three great sons of Nadia district.

This year's book fair is being organise in association and suupport of the National Book Trust.

This year 127 publishing houses have joined the fair with their publications. Different departments of the state government have also set up counters at the fair ground.

Kushal, winner of the Zee TV's mega reality show Sa-Re-Gaa-Ma-Pa, rocked the inaugural evening with his dazzling performance. The Chau artistes of Purulia had also earned respect for their traditional show embedded with contemporary thoughs. 

The organisers have chosen the "Nadia" district as the theme for this year's Book Fair. A spokes person of the organising committee said: "Our aim is to project the rich culture, tradition and heritage of the Nadia district to the younger generation who have born and being brought up in the soil of this district. We want to project this book fair as a window to this young generation. With this objection we have tried our best to project the rich tradition, arts and culture of our district. As a part of this endeavor we have opened stalls for where the hand weavers of Fulia will show their skill - the art of weaving of world class Taant sari. Similarly the artisans of Ghurni in Krishnanagar will show their craftsmanship in unique clay modelling. The making of sweet delicacies which have added feathers of respect to the district like "Sar-Bhaja", "Sar-Puria", "Pantua" will also be shown. The folk artistes of Nadia will perform in the open stage to quench the music lovers and make young people aware about their rich collection and culture".

This year UCO Bank has come forward to provide support to this book fair. Other eminent organisations who have extended their support to make the book fair a successful event are - "Prabasher Khabar" as National media partner, "Lipi" and "The Echo of India" as Print Media partner, 'Hangla Hensherl", as food magazine media partner, "Omkar"- as TV Media partner onkar, and as the Web Media partners.
