3 Youths Arrested With Gold Valued Rs 7-Crores

Nabadweep, April 29: The Nabadweep police today arrested three Kolkata based, all resident of Khidirpore, for smuggling of stolen gold from Assam and seized nearly 26-kg of gold from them valued around Rs 7.00-crore. An cash amount of around Rupees 1-lakh was also recovered from the youths.

They were identified as Omprakash Shaw, Harish Chandra Prasad and Manoj Kumar Shaw, who are all residents of Khidirpore area in the city.

An investigating officer of Nabadweep police station said: “During the interrogation it appeared that the youths deals with stolen gold. They smuggle gold after obtaining it from a racket which operate in Assam. They were nabbed while returning Kolkata to Assam”

They trio was later produced before the additional district session judges court in Nabadweep and taken to police custody for seven day.

They were charged under section 413 (dealing with stolen properties), 414 (concealment of stolen property), 379 (theft), 411 (receiving stolen property) of the IPC.

Acting on a tip  off, a  police team led by inspector in charge Tapan Kumar Mishra spotted white Renault car in Radhabazar area of the Nabadweep town early  in the morning.

“We were checking cars on the basis of the tip off. There was also a precautionary checking of cars early in the morning as a security measure due to chief minister’s programme in the town later in the day. While checking the Renault car, the passengers appeared to be suspicious and tried to flee. There were three inside the car, whom we intercepted. While checking the car, we found heavy packets sealed under the seats of the car. We found the packets contained gold in bundles”, an officer of Nabadweep police said.

“The gold bundles weigh 26 kg which was later evaluated around Rs 7 crores. We have seized the gold and the car as well and arrested the three youths", said IC of Nabadweep Police Tapan Kumar Mishra
