Deceased CPI (M) leader Feroz Sheikh Dafadar

Nakashipara, May 1: Pradhan of a CPI (M) ruled panchayat body in Nadia’s Nakashipara block was allegedly killed by miscreants associated with Trinamul Congress as he refused to join the ruling party allowing it to form a board.

Feroz Sheikh Dafadar, 35, pradhan of Dhananjoypur panchayat under Nakashipara police station, was shot dead on Friday evening while he was returning home after attending a meeting over a disputed land. Victim’s wife and district CPI (M) leadership have alleged that Feroz and other eight panchayat members were being lured by local Trinamul leadership to join them, which eventually turned into a threat on his life as he refused to oblige them.

On Friday evening two bike borne miscreants stopped Feroz on his way to his home near Machpota village and pumped two bullets from close range. One bullet pierced his forehead while the others stuck to his chest, killing him on the spot.

The murder ignited tension in the area as CPI (M) activists blocked NH-34 on Saturday in front of the Nakashipara police station morning for about two hours demanding arrest of the culprits. The blockade was withdrawn only after senior police officers assured action.

The CPI (M) has also called a 12-hour bandh in Nakashipara block on Sunday condemning the murder.

CPI (M) district leadership has alleged that a section of Nakashipara police is also involved behind the entire conspiracy.

Party’s district Sumit De said: “Involvement of a section of local police is quite clear as it mysteriously arranged a complaint lodged by a distant relative surprisingly much ahead of victim’s brother Ishrafil Sheikh Dafadar went to lodge one on behalf of the family. The police initially refused to take his complaint, which accused six local Trinamul activists, instead it in an unusual hurriedness started the case against two of our panchayat members – Khusbahar Ali Sheik and Sarafat Ali Sheikh, who have long been forced to leave the area under threat from Trinamul. Later following an altercation it took the complaint, but did not treat it as the FIR. However, they do later too Ishrafil and two other eye witness to a court in Krishnanagar to record statement before a magistrate under section 164n of Cr PC. It is clear that they have been implicated for their refusal to join Trinamul”.

Sources said, a gang of six miscreants led by Jahangir Biswas and Sansar Sheikh, all Trinamul workers, killed Feroz.

[Out of 21 seats in Dhananjoypur panchayat, CPI (M) won 9 seats, while Trinamul got 7. Congress bagged 3 seats, while BJP and Independent got 1 each. CPI (M) formed the board with outside support by Congress and independent members.]

Victim’s wife said: “Trinamul leaders have long been planning to grab the panchayat and consistently putting pressure on my husband to join Trinamul. They also threatened him for dire consequences unless he joins. However, my husband in all the times had humbly refused to oblige as he was dedicated love for the party. This angered the local leaders, who conspired to kill my husband. He paid with his life only for his refusal to accept Trinamul’s offer”.

Officer in charge Nakashipara police Raja Sarkar said: “We have started a case on the basis of a complaint by the victim’s cousin Zeker Ali Sheikh, who is also an eye witness of the murder. He named Khusbahar Ali Sheikh and Sarafat Sheikh, both CPI (M) panchayat members in his complaint. However, both went absconding. Later some other people also came to make statement about the murder, who we have advised to go to court to record their statement under section 164 of Criminal procedure code (Cr PC).

Meanwhile, Trinamul’s Nakashipara block president Ashok Dutta has refuted the allegation. “We never tried to lure or threat CPI (M) members to out fold. The murder is fallout of corruption over tender between two sections of anti social elements close to Trinamul Congress”.
