Chakdaha (Nadia), Sept. 18: A forty year old small entrepreneur was killed at home by unidentified assailants in Madanpur-Majhdia village of Nadia’s Chakdaha during the wee hours of Friday morning.   The victim was identified as Antu Dutta, a hosiery garment manufacturer, who was hacked to death in front of his wife Sushmita and three year old daughter Rai at his bed room.

Police have started investigation into the murder, but yet to get any breakthrough about the motive behind it. However, the sleuths have been suspecting an extra marital affair behind the murder.

Senior police officers including superintendant of police Bharatlal Meena and additional Superintendant of police Ajay Prasad visited the spot on Friday morning along with the sniffer dogs. They also talked to the victim’s wife who is the eye witness of the gruesome murder.

“It is a clear of case of murder. However, the motive is not clear. We are examining all possible aspects including a dacoity as some valuables have been taken away by the assailants. However, it would be too early to speak anything about it. We are hopeful to solve the mystery behind the murder soon”, SP Bharatlal Meena said.

Investigting officials, however, claimed that two possible motives have apparently surfaced out during the preliminary phase of investigation. "The first one is an extra marital affair of the victim's wife and the other is a paternal property dispute with brothers. The victim had a paternal property in Hanskhali area for which dispute among the siblings has been pending since long. We are examining the involvement of the victim’s  brothers", a police officer said.

The sleuths are like to interrogate victim's wife and brothers.

Police said, at around 2.30 am, unidentified assailants knocked the door of the residence of Antu.

“We heard a knock on the door, some persons asked to open the door as they said they have come to see my husband’s ailing mother Minati Dutta (86) who had broken her hand in last week after a fall and was admitted to hospital in Kalyani. She returned home last evening. It was not clear to us who came, but as soon as my husband opened the door, masked men with arms entered inside and dragged him to the adjacent room. I tried to resist, but they tied me up along with my three year old daughter. After that they hacked my husband with sharp weapon landing him on the floor in front of the Puja place, I pleaded for his life, but they forced me to remain mum keeping my daughter at gun point”, said Sushmita, wife of the deceased.

The victim died on the spot. The assailants locked the room from outside before leaving the spot. It was around, 3.30 am, Sushmita called the neighbor for help.
