Ambulance Mowed Elderly Cyclist In Phulia

Krishnanagar, May 20: An elderly cyclist was crushed to death when an ambulance hit him from behind before ramming on a tree after its driver lost control on NH-34 in Nadia’s Phulia during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The victim was identified as Sankar Ghosh, 65, a resident of Phulia Mathpara.

Police said, the accident occurred at around 5.30 am, when the ambulance driver who was heading towards Calcutta from Berhmapur with a patient Samimul Sheikh and his relative lost control while running on a high speed.

The vehicle hit the elderly person killing him on the spot and rammed on to a tree before got overturned.

The elderly cyclist and the passengers of the ambulance were rushed to Ranaghat sub divisional hospital in Anulia by the local people, where the cyclist was pronounced brought dead.

The passengers of the ambulance including the patient who was being taken to NRS hospital to Calcutta, later admitted to Rananghat sub divisional hospital.

In another accident, a helper of a combined harvester died when it overturned while going through a narrow village road in Natidanaga-Pardiya village under Thanarapara police station on Wednesday afternoon. The, victim however, could not be identified till report last came in.
